I studied stringed instrument construction and repair at Anniesland College for three years with Paul Hyland and William C Kelday. I then moved to London to continue my studies at London Metropolitan University, gaining a first class degree in Music Technology (Musical Instruments). In London I worked with luthiers Norman Myall, Martin Bowers and Nick Blishen. While studying for my degree I became interested in how construction affects the tonal qualities of guitars. For my final year project I conducted an analysis of the effects of bracing patterns on an instrument’s tone.
